Sustainability

At Studio Vans we aim to offer the most sustainable campervan conversions out there. We’re constantly inspired by the natural environment of our beautiful island home, reminding us that every choice from our energy supply to our packaging has an impact.

Our campervan kits are designed to be for-life products, outliving your van, allowing you to take it with you and into your next vehicle.

Our Sustainable Materials

  • Ocean plastic worktop

    Ocean Plastic

We collect marine plastic waste from our local beaches and participate in community beach clean ups. The material is processed in our workshop, sorted, chipped and pressed to create beautiful, durable and colourful Ocean Plastic worktops and details for our vans.

  • Lightweight Aluminium

Our system frame is made from lightweight, endlessly recyclable Aluminium. The strong yet lightweight frame is ideal for electric vehicles that need to keep the weight down.

  • Recycled Foam & Fabric

Our comfortable bed & seating foam and the upholstery fabric are fully recycled materials. We use Camira fabrics which are 100% recycled polyester and 75% Marine Waste yarn.

  • Sheeps Wool Insulation

For our custom island fit outs we insulate the vans with a 50mm thick sheeps wool insulation to reduce the need for heating and keep the interior a comfortable temperature.

  • Flooring in Cork or Marmoleum

We offer a few flooring options for our custom island fit outs, the two we prefer are Cork and Marmoleum. Both have excellent thermal properties, the Marmoleum is ideal for use with our underfloor heating system.

Cork is a naturally renewable material, one cork tree can be harvested hundreds of times in it’s lifespan. Marmoleum is manufactured in Scotland from jute, linseed oil and wood fibres and is Carbon Negative.

  • FSC Poplar and Birch Ply

All of the wood we use is FSC, lightweight Poplar ply from Portugal and thicker heavier Birch plywood from the Baltics.

We use the Poplar ply everywhere we can, to line the van and construct seating and storage, to keep the overall weight down and save on fuel. The thicker, heavier Birch ply only used where it’s necessary for structural reasons.
